He began to paint from life and his teachers were the landscape of Alcalá de Henares, the park, the pine trees and the river, where he drew and painted for ever, but he did not receive any academic training and only spent a few days in the school of fine arts and applied trades in Seville, where he was recognised as a self-taught painter.
